I bet if Elphaba wrote the letter she pens to her father in the song “What Is This Feeling?” to Dulcibear instead then maybe she would have been told “it sounds like you’re in love with her.” Dulcibear returns in Wicked: For Good, and I have mixed feelings about how much of the animals we get in the second film — they’re important to the story!

The Story Behind How Wicked Connects So Deeply With The LGBTQ+ Community

In both versions Elphaba, has to deal with the ramifications of being different (since she has green skin), and through her journey to become the Wicked Witch she accepts herself for who she is. When it comes to Wicked the book and musical, it’s also worth noting that aside from a hint of romance between its two main female characters, perhaps even greater is the queer allegory at the center of Wicked Witch’s arc.
