Carnestoltes (Carnival), kicking off on Dijous Gras (Fat Thursday) in February, is a week of pageantry and debauchery ahead of Lent. Just a short drive from the town center, this protected area is a beautiful spot for Mediterranean landscapes, from rugged cliffs to serene pine forests.
This attracted also more and more gay tourists and expatriates, and in the 1990s Sitges became a gay hotspot.

Sitges Carnival 2026: In winter, Sitges is a rather quiet village, but it gets packed with thousands of visitors for one week during carnival.
Sitges is not just a destination; it's a journey into the heart of what it means to live, love, and belong. Especially in July and August Sitges is packed with gay men from all over Europe. Hiking trails meander through the park, offering breathtaking vistas and a chance to reconnect with the earth.
Sitges is a place where history whispers from ancient walls, where art flourishes in sun-dappled galleries, and where the gay nightlife pulsates with unabashed joy.
You’ll find pool parties and beach parties during the summer of Sitges, and the town’s foam parties, where the dancefloors are drenched with foam, are extra special for wet and wild fun.
