Understanding the appeal of gay hotels in Benidorm’s Old Town

Benidorm has established itself as a premier destination for LGBTQ+ travelers, thanks to its welcoming atmosphere and thriving gay scene.

One half is the New Town, where you will find the clubbing strip which is cheap, tacky fun at its best, and doesn’t claim to be anything else!

The second half is the Old Town which took me by surprise. The Old Town’s narrow streets come alive after dark, with music, laughter, and the vibrant energy of the gay scene filling the air.

For those interested in exploring beyond the bars, Benidorm also offers a variety of cultural events and festivals throughout the year.

The city’s commitment to inclusivity is evident in the abundance of gay-friendly establishments, ensuring that every guest feels welcome. The integration of LGBTQ+ friendly filters on booking platforms has made it easier than ever to find the perfect hotel in Benidorm.

The Old Town is much more traditional, picturesque, has some incredible tapas bars, and most importantly for this article, is where you will find Benidorm’s gay bars!

Gay Benidorm Travel Guide: Benidorms Gay Scene

Benidorm’s gay scene actually goes all the way back to the 1960s, when its first gay bar, called Gay Bar Pretex opened.

Since then, Benidorm’s gay scene has grown throughout the narrow, cobbled streets of the Old Town.

Amenities such as free Wi-Fi, breakfast, and proximity to public transport can enhance your stay. Cafe 23 is currently opening Saturday 12-5 due to restrictions imposed and based in the middle of the old down on Calle de los Quatre Cantons.

Our best advice is just to wonder from bar to bar and see where the night takes you!

Benidorm Gay Beaches

Benidorm does not have an official gay beach as such, however like everywhere, certain beaches draw the gay crowd together.

This commitment extends beyond hotels, with bars, clubs, and attractions all striving to create a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone.

The growth of LGBTQ+ events and festivals, such as Benidorm Pride, has further cemented the city’s status as a top gay destination. It runs along Levante Beach and finishes with outdoor performances from local DJ’s and artists.

Benidorm Gay Saunas

Benidorm has one gay sauna called H20.

It is open 3pm-9pm Monday to Friday, Sundays opening hours are 1pm to 9pm.

They offer a 12 man jacuzzi. When searching for gay hotels in Benidorm, use booking platforms that feature LGBTQ+ friendly filters to ensure a welcoming environment. The pools are always a lot more relaxing! But there is so much more to this Spanish coastal town!

You can broadly split Benidorm into two.

There are many small gay bars and a few clubs scattered around which can easily tempt you into a bar crawl.

The majority of the gays bars in Benidorms Old Town are centred around the Calle Cuatro Esquinas and Calle Santa Faz.

We were genuinely shocked (and excited) to see the streets in the Old Town lined with gay bars on our first visit to Benidorm.

The city’s compact layout means that most attractions are just a short walk or bus ride away.
